Palmer’s is a pretty well known company when it comes to skin care products. They’ve got lotions and creams for nearly everything you can think of. Perhaps their most popular items, though, are the ones designed for pregnancy. These include Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Massage Lotion, Tummy Butter, and a few others.

These products are specifically meant for the treatment and prevention of stretch marks during and after pregnancy. Their stretch mark cream and tummy butter are among the best selling products on sites like Amazon and even in stores such as Walgreen’s. Below we’ve provided a complete review of these lotions to help you figure out if they’ll work for you or not.

Using a unique blend of pure cocoa butter, vitamin E, and shea butter, Palmer’s has crafted an extremely popular solution for moms-to-be and after-pregnancy skincare. According to the official Palmer’s website these special made products have been proven to increase skin elasticity and moisture in 97% of individuals in clinical tests.

Palmer’s Massage Lotion is dermatologist tested, hypoallergenic, and completely free of parabens and phthalate. It is sold by the bottle and costs roughly $8 to $10 each depending on where you purchase it from.

Palmer’s Tummy Butter is another very popular stretch mark lotion. It shares a very similar formula as the massage lotion with a few added ingredients such as lavender and is recommended as a nighttime treatment. It is about the same price as the lotion, too.

Generally speaking the Massage Lotion had a lot more positive feedback than the Tummy Butter. Several individuals complained of a red, itchy rash forming after using the Tummy Butter product and advised against purchasing it. That’s a pretty alarming bit of info.

I used this through BOTH of my pregnancies and don’t have any stretch marks! You can’t even tell I have had children honestly lol. I started at 5’2 and 88 lbs with both my boys so I was expecting to stretch. I recommend this 2x a day stomach, butt, thighs, and breasts and then the firming version after delivery. But because I breast fed I continued with this version through my supply coming in just for breasts before I used the firming on them.

Amazon Review for Palmers Cocoa Butter

I am 14 weeks pregnant and started using this around 9 weeks pregnant 🙂 so far my tummy feels like it will stretch with no problems and seems like a great product to help prevent stretch marks by making our tummy skin more elastic! i put it all over my thighs/stomach/breasts and it smells of cocoa butter

Amazon Review for Palmers Cocoa Butter

Even Palmer’s Stretch Mark Massage Lotion had its fair share of negative comments, though. Quite a few people state that the product simply does not work, even as a preventative measure. One woman claimed that she used the lotion 2-3 times a day throughout her pregnancy and still got nasty stretch marks once she hit the 30 week mark.

Our Review

Like most customers, we have rather mixed feelings about using Palmer’s for pregnancy-related stretch marks. While the product does seem to work for a number of people, it seems highly inconsistent and results are most definitely not guaranteed.

The formula works relatively well for moisturizing your skin, which is always a plus, but it’s effectiveness as a treatment for getting rid of already-present stretch marks is questionable. While some claim it cleared up their marks, many more said it did nothing. It seems to us that Palmer’s is primarily designed to be a preventative solution, not an actual treatment for after-the-fact.

In our honest opinion, you’re more likely to see good results from using a product like TriLastin-SR or Revitol’s Stretch Mark Cream. If you’ve got a bit of money you don’t mind burning through you could even spring for alternative treatments such as laser surgery. Surgery is highly effective, works almost instantaneously, but it does have a hefty price tag attached.
